May be nothing, but… Every time I watch Meta Fiction I keep getting stuck on the outside of Cas’ motel:
Because I just can’t help thinking… That layout looks awfully familiar…
There’s that ice cold drinks machine. The shrubbery along the walls. The jutting out lamps.
I mean… could just be that it’s a standard motel layout… but… I can’t recall offhand any others that have looked quite like this… and Monster at the End of this Book (which the second image above is taken from) WAS also overtly meta in a v. similar way to Meta Fiction, involving Sam and Dean following a script in a similar way to how Cas and Gabriel do. A script also written by the showrunner stand-in, Chuck, who is also a (debatable) god figure, like Metatron.
So… idk… perhaps the outside of the motel, with its drinks machine, is a visual reference to Monster at the End of This Book?
Thinking of it that way allows for a nice little compare/contrast -
In Monster, Dean goes OUTSIDE a motel room seeking GOD’S help (as you see above). Instead he gets CAS (you remember? Cas answering Dean’s prayer - it’s only the scene that started me shipping them, I mean, no big…):
In Meta Fiction we have a kind of mirrored version, with SAM going INSIDE a motel room seeking CAS’ help. Instead he gets GOD (or a version of):
There’s something significant about the moment by that drinks machine in Monster. It’s the scene of Cas’ first rebellion against god/Heaven, where we see him cleverly subvert a supposedly divine script, while ostensibly remaining true to it. You know, his whole - “just so you know, why I can’t help” deal :)
Could the fact that Cas’ apparent submission to Metatron’s divine script happens in a place visually reminiscent of his previous opposition to another such script imply, perhaps, that Cas is once again subverting the plans of god/Heaven while appearing to adhere to them?
I like to think so :)
am I sick from anxiety or am I actually physically ill? a memoir by me
am i lazy or horribly depressed: the sequel
does everyone hate me or am I just very insecure: the completion of the trilogy
I’m such a fool…. (Also excuse the hideous final drawing; I was still dazed from this revelation)
Wolves fighting for dominance as a “thing” came from observation of captive packs. Observation of genuinely wild packs has revealed that it is not, in fact, a “thing.”
Y’hear that, ya dumbass modern werewolf writers?
hear that, self-styled “alpha males”?
They weren’t even captive packs, they were a bunch of unrelated wolves shoved together in too-small a space.
So if you’re an ‘alpha wolf’ then you are, in point of fact, not the noble, fierce and imposing leader of a group who respects you, but a scared wild creature with no social support frantically lashing out at strangers to try and gain some semblance of control over a fundamentally uncontrollable environment?
That would explain a few things.
today a customer asked me for a “medium whatever” and then got frustrated with me when i asked him what he meant
